2nd International Workshop March 23rd to 24rd 2015

Integration of Point- and Area-wise Geodetic Monitoring for Structures and Natural Objects

From March 23-24, 2015 the second International Workshop on “Integration of Point- and Area-wise Geodetic Monitoring for Structures and Natural Objects” took place in Stuttgart, Germany.

This workshop continues the collaboration between the Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies, Novosibirsk, Russian Federation; the University of Applied Science, Karlsruhe; and the University of Stuttgart.

The event served as an opportunity to further develop of ideas and solutions with respect to the topics discussed and analyzed during the first workshop which took place in the year 2014 in Novosibirsk, Russian Federation. According to the key issues “Objects under Observation”, “Methods of Observations and Measurements” and “Monitoring Data Processing and Interpretation” that were defined at the beginning of the collaboration, different presentations were given within the following technical sessions and discussed afterwards:

  • Monitoring and Modelling of 3-D Objects
  • GNSS-Solutions
  • Laser Scanning Applications and Modelling
  • Geometric and Deformation Analysis
  • Optical Methods for Street Mapping

The sessions’ topics cover the field of point-wise and area-wise monitoring techniques. Within this framework, two main directions could be identified: theoretical approaches to evaluation techniques for GNSS and Laser Scanning applications as well as monitoring techniques in the field of man-made structures and objects, such as infrastructure objects, pit mines, and oil and gas fields.
Mainly young researchers from the Russian Federation and Germany presented their works on the occasion of this workshop.
During the fruitful closing discussion it became apparent that collaboration and exchange of knowledge, as conducted during the workshop, are important for further scientific developments.
